Vascular Heterografts for Hemodyalisis Access: Analysis of Elastic and Viscous Matching Factor between Human and Ovine Vessels
نویسنده
چکیده
−− Long-term vascular accesses are usually performed in patients submitted to renal replacement therapy using autologous vessels. When arterio-venous fistula creation is impossible, animal conduits have been used in order to obtain high patency rates. Bovine vessel heterograft has been introduced as a substitute for the construction of arterio-venous fistulas. However, when experimental research of graft failure is focused to vascular wall properties, the ovine model is one of the more frequently utilized instead of the study of bovine vessels. Biomechanical vessel wall properties study is very important, since the viscoelastic mismatch among the fistulae conduits has been pointed out as a determinant of intimal hyperplasia, a cause of access dysfunction. In this work we have analyzed viscoelastic properties of arteries and veins harvested from human donors in brain death condition and healthy sheep. The elastic mismatch calculus revealed that the human brachial artery and the ovine jugular veins exhibit the best coupling accompanied by an optimal viscous matching. Keywords−− hemodialysis access, arterial elasticity, venous elasticity, vascular viscosity, elastic mismatch.

Vascular endothelial growth factor expression and vascular densi-ty in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC): A study on clinical and histopathologic significance
Background: New blood vessels formation is a critical step in tumor progression. Vascular density affects the clinical outcome and prognosis of malignant tumors. The aim of this study was to investigate the relation between the Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) expression and vascular density with the clinical and histopathologic features in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC).  ...
متن کاملAdventitia-dependent mechanical properties of brachiocephalic ovine arteries in in vivo and in vitro studies.
AIM An adventitia dependent regulation of the vascular smooth muscle tone has been described. However, if the adventitia plays an active role on arterial wall biomechanical behaviour and functions remains to be established. Our aim was to characterize the influence of adventitia on arterial wall mechanical properties and the arterial conduit and buffer functions. METHODS Ovine brachiocephalic...
متن کاملElectro-Thermo-Dynamic Buckling of Embedded DWBNNT Conveying Viscous Fluid
In this paper, the nonlinear dynamic buckling of double-walled boron-nitride nanotube (DWBNNT) conveying viscous fluid is investigated based on Eringen's theory. BNNT is modeled as an Euler-Bernoulli beam and is subjected to combine mechanical, electrical and thermal loading. The effect of viscosity on fluid-BNNT interaction is considered based on Navier-Stokes relation. The van der Waals (vdW)...
متن کاملAngiogenesis: A Critical Role in Locally Aggressive Behavior of Keratocystic Odontogenic Tumor
Introduction: Odontogenic cysts are osteodestructive lesions affecting the jaws. Odontogenic keratocyst is an odontogenic cyst with highly aggressive features. Multicystic ameloblastoma is a benign epithelial odontogenic tumor with more aggressive behavior than dentigerous cyst and odontogenic keratocyst. Invasion and metastasis of tumors require increased blood vessels during tumorigenesis. Th...

Background: Stimulation of collateral artery growth (arteriogenesis) and/or capillary network growth (angiogenesis) would be beneficial to the patients with myocardial infarction. To understand the central role of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in biological angiogenesis, we performed molecular analysis of the VEGF gene in patients afflicted with acute myocardial infarction (AMI).
